Roma in Europe

The Roma are Europe's largest minority, and according to the world bank, make up the more vulnerable population in Eastern Europe, where more than 71% of Roma families live in poverty. Violence and xenophobia directed at European Roma persists today as it has for hundreds of years. French authorities continually evict Roma people from their camps, many of whom will likely be deported. One key element of antiziganism, (prejudice or discrimination directed at the Romani people), is the sentiment that Roma people are fundamentally different from "true Europeans", even though Roma have lived in Europe for 1000 years.
