Speaking of American media

Representation of Roma people in American media is very limited, in fact, one of the only shows that features Roma people is "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding", a notoriously problematic show on TLC, The Learning Channel, that not only does little to discourage, but actively promote negative stereotypes that harmfully affect the Romani people. The show seems to focus on the perceived 'otherness' of the Roma people, casting them as a strange, insular society- all but encouraging prejudices. Cultural and historical context is also conveniently absent from TLC's clueless 'reality" TV show. In addition to the show being generally misrepresentative, TLC's website contains an article stating that most Roma people are offended by the term Gypsy, but the company continues to perpetuate the term.
